Our Itinerary: Amazon Rainforest Trip
This expedition is available for 3, 4, or 5 days and can be customized according to your available time.
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and transferred to our office in Puerto Maldonado. After a brief orientation, you will embark on a 40-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River to your lodge. After check-in and lunch, your first adventure begins around 3:00 PM with a jungle walk and a visit to a rubber camp. After returning to the lodge, you will have time to relax and enjoy the sunset. And, at 7:00 PM, you'll head out for a nighttime boat safari in search of caimans, followed by a late dinner.
The day starts with an excursion to the stunning Lake Sandoval. After a 20-minute boat ride, a 3 km hike on flat terrain through the rainforest will take you to the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve. You'll observe monkeys, birds, and other exotic animals before boarding small boats to admire giant otters and other lake creatures. The afternoon continues at 3:30 PM with a visit to an observation tower and a chestnut camp, where you'll learn about the nut harvest, a key economic activity in the region.
At 9:00 AM, you will depart for a visit to a family-run chakra, where you'll discover the natural cultivation of local fruits and vegetables without the use of chemicals and enjoy tasting fresh indigenous products. Then, at noon, you'll meet a native family from the local Machiguenga community for a cultural immersion that will offer you a wealth of learning. You'll have the opportunity to discover their language, customs, craftsmanship, and traditional music, which have been developed far from modern civilizations.
Breakfast will be followed by an 8:30 AM excursion—a 45-minute boat ride to the Taricaya Center, dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and rescued wildlife. You'll have the opportunity to observe jaguars, monkeys, turtles, tapirs, manatees, and exotic birds in a center that cares for them until they are ready to return to the wild. The visit includes a walk through a canopy at 42 meters high, offering a spectacular view above the giant trees, where you'll witness the lush green expanse of the jungle.
The excursion will take place at sunrise to witness the spectacular gathering of parrots at the clay lick. After this vibrant and significant spectacle, return to the lodge for your final breakfast. Then, you'll be transferred back by boat to Puerto Maldonado for a brief visit to the local market and downtown area before continuing to the airport.
